What to pack for SA

WHAT TO PACK FOR SOUTH AFRICA

DON’T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT: --

1. Check your passport isn’t about to expire
2. Organize travellers’ cheques well in advance
3. Organize travel insurance and medical insurance
4. Check your flight details and confirm them -  including onward connections and returns.
5. If necessary, don’t forget to order specials meals in advance for flights.

WHAT TO PACK

Most of the time you’ll be comfortable in light, summer weight clothes BUT

• DO pack a warm jacket, socks and a rain jacket
  
• Pack sunscreen – lots of it -  a Hat and Sunglasses
  
• Do remember insect repellent
  
• If you plan to be in a malaria area, ensure you have a cool, long-sleeved shirt and cool long pants for evenings.
  
• Bring good walking shoes.
  
• If you plan a safari, try and wear reasonably neutral colours.
  
• You don’t need formal clothes, unless you stay in exclusive hotels and the Blue Train.
  

DRUGS AND MEDICATION

If you are dependent on any medications bring a supply and a spare prescription
(we call our drugstores PHARMACIES.)

IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS

Make two copies of all your important documents, like passports.
Take one with you in a different bag to the original.
Leave one at home with a responsible, easily reachable person.
Try to memorize all your important numbers – passport number, credit card numbers etc.
If you lose your bag, this could be an enormous help.

ELECTRICAL

Generally, the 110v video chargers work safely on the 220v supply.
Electricity is supplied at 220/240 volts, 15 amps, and is supplied through either 15 amp three-pong or 5-amp two-prong plugs, in both cases with round pins. If you’re bringing anything electrical, bring an adapter – or you can buy one here.

If you’ve forgotten anything – don’t panic.  This is not the back of beyond and you can buy whatever you need.
